THTR 569 - Sound Documentation

Due to COVID-19, productions originally slated for Fall 2020 were postponed until Spring 2021, leaving a gap in Purdue Theatre's production seminar class. Months previous, USITT showcased their updated sound documentation guidelines. This prompted Adam, Rick Thomas (mentor at Purdue) and John Chung (fellow senior) to use the seminar classes to explore the updated USITT guidelines while creating a set of complete paperwork using these new recommendations. This exploration evolved into the research and creation of a new class taught at Purdue University by Rick Thomas and co-taught by Adam and John. This class, THTR 569 - Sound Documentation, was created to introduce Purdue Theatre Sound students to creation of the documentation required by a Purdue Theatre production while using the USITT guidelines as recommendation for properly prepared materials.

The course centers around the use of Vectorworks, a CAD program and Microsoft Excel as two programs to create the documentation necessary. The course was taught virtually over the Spring 2021 semester through Zoom. Rick, Adam and John wrote lectures and prepped class materials to properly demo each section of the course. The demo production used was Nell Gwynn while the students used the lecture notes to create the documentation for Mother Courage and Her Children. Both productions utilized the Hansen Theatre at Purdue University.
